DECEMBER 16, 2009 201 Ways to Say "Thanks"
We know how much you value all the extra time and effort your staff puts in to get your company through this challenging year. But do they? A recent survey found that more employees are motivated by praise and appreciation than extra padding in their purse. So if you can't afford to show them the money this year, try a little love.
There are lots of ways to show your employees they're valued, says Porter Gale, vice president of marketing for Virgin America. "We recognize achievements in weekly meetings, often giving star employees the opportunity to attend special events, or present to other department heads or the CEO." Holiday parties and other group events are a great way to keep everyone engaged, Gale tells PINK. "We have barbeques in the back yard at the office, celebrate birthdays and host functions for employees and their families."
A little recognition goes a long way. OfficeArrow.com and Restaurant-Hospitality.com suggest ways to say thank-you: write a note, listen to their ideas and help them improve themselves.
HR Tools, The Rainmaker Blog, eZine and Articles Base list low- to no-cost employee rewards, like travel discounts, free lunch, assigned parking and an afternoon off.
