DECEMBER 18, 2009 5 Perfect Winter Dresses
'Tis the season for menswear boyfriend and military trends, and lots of pants (not having to shave isn't bad either). But you just can't beat the flirty femininity (and comfort) of a dress.
The dress is all about versatility this winter, says Lauren Leonard, designer and founder of Leona, as women are now spending less than men on non-essentials. "Look for styles that can be worn different ways for different looks and that will transition well into spring like with layers, boots and leggings that can be shed in warmer months."
These will help you dress for the job:
Long-sleeve silky dresses are a must, says Leonard. "They're comfortable and, in the right color, work in warmer seasons." Plus, they look great on all different body types. We like these from Tory Burch, Vera Wang, Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs.
A sheath or shift dress, nice year-round, looks fresh and trendy over a long-sleeve silk blouse. "I love mixing feminine with structured." The Limited, Banana Republic, Kristin Davis and Target offer options.
Or try a knee-length sweater or wool dress. "They won't go out of style and are great for layering and accessorizing." Check out styles from Calvin Klein, Ann Taylor, Ashley Stewart and AB Studio.
