PINK's Top Companies 2009
American Express, Metlife and Turner Broadcasting System Among PINK magazine's 15 Top Companies for Women 2009
ATLANTA- July 22, 2009- PINK is thrilled to announce its annual Top Companies for Women, which for 2009 received a record number of entries from America's leading firms, proving more companies are recognizing the importance of women's advancement in the workplace. What's even better is the progress we're witnessing first-hand across the business landscape year to year - from the appointment of the first African-American woman CEO of a Top 500 company (Ursula Burns takes the helm of Xerox on July 1) to a slight up-tick in the number of women corporate officers at the largest U.S. companies. Progress may still be slow - but these companies are leading the way!
Once again, PINK took a hard-numbers approach to each company's record - looking for women's high representation in positions of power among top earners, and examining management's commitment to a more progressive means for. We also made sure that programs for Life/Work balance give women equal opportunity for a rewarding life away from the office. The 15 finalists that emerged include some familiar
names, but also several newcomers who showed how they, too, are creating an environment that is equal for their women employees.
This year's honorees include: Adobe Systems, American Express, Bebe Stores, Capital One, Grant Thornton, KPMG, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, Liz Claiborne, Manpower, MetLife, Scholastic, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Turner Broadcasting System, Wal-Mart and Wyndham Worldwide.
"It's still a work in progress. We'd like to see even higher numbers of women in executive posts, on boards and in C-suites. But it's a start," says Cynthia Good, PINK's founding editor. "All companies would do well to adopt the best practices demonstrated by these firms, which are committed to advancing women in the workplace."
