Hiring Hiccups

 

The right hire can make all the difference, but what happens when the interviewer doesn't make the interview a priority

In a recent survey by Development Dimensions International and Monster, respondents cited several top reasons for not taking a position, including interviewers who withheld information about a position, showed up late or appeared unprepared for the interview they were supposed to be leading.

Why are so many job candidates having a bad experience? "[Interviewers] know they hold the upper hand in the decision-making process," says Tory Johnson, Good Morning America workplace contributor and CEO of Women for Hire, so they think that a candidate will put up with anything to get hired. Johnson's best tip for making sure you don't send a star applicant packing: "Try not to schedule interviews back to back so you can be fresh for each candidate," she says.
